“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” Buddha
Generosity is freely sharing what you have with others. Vaughn Turner is one of those benevolent souls who give so cheerfully of his time and treasure. I am so pleased to feature him today as one of mentorSTEM’s special partners.
Vaughn Turner is the Executive Director at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Vaughn was the executive sponsor for our recent field trip to Ronald Reagan National Airport where the mentorSTEM girls had a private tour of the air traffic control tower.
Mr. Turner directs FAA’s Technical Operations Services, and provides leadership over policy, support, and technical engineering services to the programs and operations across the Air Traffic Organization. Technical Operations Services consists of over 10,000 employees, who ensure that more than 45,000 pieces of equipment and systems operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, at over 6,000 facilities comprising the US Air Traffic Control (ATC) System.
Clearly, Mr. Turner is a busy man. Nevertheless, he is committed to helping to inspire girls to pursue STEM education. As students continue to drop out of classes in math and science, America must rely on people like Mr. Turner to address America’s declining competitiveness in the field of technology.
As Arthur Ashe once said, “From what we get, we can make a living; what we give, however, makes a life.”
